Black Rock Fish and Game Club offers an assortment of ranges for the avid shooter including 5 stand and trap shotgun ranges to pistol ranges and rifle ranges with target stanchions at 25,50,100,150 and 200 yards. There is also an outside bow range to 50 yards for the bow enthusiast. Improvements are planned to make these ranges even better!
The Ranges
The main pistol and rifle ranges offer covered shooting points on the primary ranges with either standard shooting counters (pistol) or individual shooting benches on the rifle range. Target stands and in-ground stand holders are available.
The Rules
Members come first, but visitors accompanied by a club member are welcome. If all shooting points are being used, then members have first shot (so to say). Please review the range closing schedule, either due to competitions or work times, before heading up to the ranges.
Rule 1
BE SAFE! Follow all rules for the safe handling of firearms, e.g., keep the firearm pointed down range at all times, no handling of firearms when any person is down range, only paper targets are aloud except for special shoots or competitions. Pistols and pistol caliber carbines only on the pistol ranges. Muzzle velocity should not exceed 1800fps on the pistol ranges. Clean up after yourself (paper, trash and brass).
No fully automatic weapons please.
Rule 2
Please see rule #1
Range Officers patrol the ranges regularly and during heavy usage times (e.g., before hunting season), they may be there the entire day. OBEY THE RANGE OFFICER” S DIRECTIONS! They are there to keep us all safe!
And if you see someone doing something unsafe, SPEAK UP! The Board of Directors really hate emergency calls due to unsafe handling of firearms!
Rule 3
Steel targets are not permitted without the approval of the shooting sports committee
.
How To Get There
The ranges are in the hills above Mountainville, NY. Take RT 32 south from the club house about 1 mile to Long Hill Road Ext. on the left. Take this road and then make a left followed by a quick right onto Long Hill Road (a gravel lightly maintained road). Follow Long Hill Rd. until you see the Black Rock F&G Club gate on the right. You will need the lock combination to get through the gate. Once through the gate (please close and lock it behind you to keep the bears in), please sign in at the sign in box just inside the gate (and sign out as you leave) and follow this road up to the ranges.
Ranges are open year round, but during winter months this is subject to accessability due to snow cover. The road to the ranges is not generally plowed during hte winter months.
We hope to see you there!
